Is it expensive to get an interior design service?
Hello everyone,
Most people think that an interior design service is very costly and so they try to do everything themselves. Can you give an idea how this service is charged?

Is it worth it to get an interior design service?
Many people don't see the point for paying extra for an interior design service since they can do it themselves. As the results, things don't always turn out great and they get stuck with something for a long time or it becomes more costly to have things redesign and redo. Can you share your experience or stories?

Should I choose granite or marble for my kitchen counter top?
Hello,
I'm renovating my kitchen. I like the look for the marble but I was advise to use granite because it was supposed to be more durable. Do you have any thoughts on this?

How to SOUNDPROOF my Apartment ? !
Unfortunately, I have moved into an ALMOST perfect apartment - except for the noise of being next to an elevator...and having a clog-wearing bastard living above me.

I have gone out to buy foam padding (the kind you put under carpets) and I am hoping to line the walls with it.

Also- I bought thick mattress padding to put up against the door with velcro at night. I feel like I am going crazy with the noise. Any other suggestions?

Hipsterish Neighbourhoods?
I'm moving to the Toronto area (from my beloved Montreal) for my Masters (UofT) and I don't know much about the city and its neighbourhoods.

I want to live kinda near the school in a youngish area. People are saying ANNEX ANNEX but I'm not too sure... I'm not a fan of "student" areas.

For people who know montreal: I don't like the McGill Ghetto... I'm more of a Mile End kind of guy. I'm not a hipsterkid, but I like the vibe of the area here in Montreal.

So what is comparable in Toronto?

And if anyone has any leads, I'm looking for a place with the usual kitchen, washroom, livingroom and seperate bedroom.

Thanks.

My evergreens are dying. Is there a solution?
I just planted two small evergreens in two 1/2 barrel pots. I was told that they are good enough. When I got the plants, they are in very dry soil with hard paper pots around. Since I can't remove the paper pots without risking to ruin the roots, I put them in the barrel pots together with new soil. I water them regularly plus there are lots of rain recently. The plants are now dried up on one side, where the traffic and the wind are pressing on the trees. Does this mean my plants are dying? What did I do wrong? Is there away I can fix this problem? I can't plant these trees in the ground. Do you know a good place to buy these small trees? I can't find them in Candian Tire, Home Depot, Rona :-( Thank you for your time.

Gardening Advice
Hey All,

We live in a row of attached houses in downtown Toronto. Our backyard is relatively small and has 2 trees (a bartlett pear and an unknown tree) which in addition to a garage at the back prevent much sun from getting into the yard. In addition we have a large dog.

We bought the place a few years ago and last year we put sod down on what was initially a mud yard. This met with little success. At first the sod did great, but over time the grass around the trees became mud (I assume becaus of a lack of sunlight), and the dog pee turned a lot of the other grass yellow. Now, only one year later, we just have a patchy lawn with much mud around the patches. What can we grow in this kind of environment? We were thinking of just finding a very hearty, low sun-needing flower and having a lawn of flowers. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Colour theory/ semiotics/ audio HELP PLZ
Hey everyone.
I'm Working on a study about colours relationship with emotion and sound. I'm trying to represent/illustrate the colour-wheels primary and secondary colours though audio.
For example: does the sound of a heart beat make you think of the color red? - perhaps the squeal of a cars breaks (stop = red) etc etc . The colours are: Yellow , green, blue, purple, red and orange. If you guys could help me out with this I would greatly appreciate it. So i'm going to take kind of a survey. For each color what is the first sound you guys think of? :
-Cheers, thanks in advance for any of your help :)
Hit me up VIA e-mail if you can: artofstoo@rogers.com

Which is the Best Hydroponic Grow Box?
I am thinking about trying out hydroponics. I dont really want to right now, as I am really getting good at the organic soil gardening, and im not trying to fix something that is not broken, but for future reference, the near future (by winter time), I would like to know your personal hydro experiences and the pros and cons of soil vs hydro. I know the basic stuff, Im interested in personal experience. A pre-built grow box like the ones from http://www.homegrown-hydroponics.com look the best to me. The green thumb runs in my blood so i know i could get it down eventually, and I expect some trial and error in the beginning, but i would love to get to the point where i can choose between soil and hydro. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
